7 tipps to beat the winterblues ...

… that work best for me.

I have just returned from a round of jogging. My first round this year after a really tough winter. It’s hard to believe, but I’ve actually waited since November for the temperatures to get warmer again. And there you go: already 12 degrees! High time for a few tips to definitely shake off the winter blues!

1. Light, light light: In winter, many people suffer from a lack of light. Since I am a sun lover, this hits me particularly hard. A couple of years ago, I therefore decided to buy an energy light. These so-called light therapy lamps have a very high light intensity (between 2’500 – 10’000 lux). They help to supply body, mind and soul with new energy. I have a model from Philips. During the winter months I use it every morning in the bathroom or while reading the newspaper.

2. Activity: Walking, biking, jogging, yoga, skiing or swimming. It doesn't always have to be a marathon. Take some time every day for physical activity. I sometimes leave the car at home and just walk to the supermarket. Find something that works for you.

3. Fresh air: Just half an hour outside in the fresh air has a wonderful effect. It clears your mind and makes room for new ideas.

4. Positive thoughts: With positive thoughts you can truly move mountains. A poor mental attitude or worry only causes your precious mental energy to leak. Everyone is the architect of his or her own happiness. Master your mind. And smile!

5. Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a real buzzword. But you don’t have to become a meditation or yoga guru to be mindful. Just appreciate the small, everyday things. Live in the moment. Take regular breaks. And enjoy it.

6. Music: Music relaxes, cheers up and makes you dream. Play your favorite song and spend a little time with music every day.

7. Weekly Motto: You may also pick a weekly motto or goal. This may be a quote that inspires you. Write it down. Color it with your preferred colors. Add a nice picture. And repeat it out loud as often as you can. The stronger you believe in it, the closer you get to the mountain top.

Pick your favourite 3 of the above tipps! Don’t aim too high. Try to make small changes every day, but make them continuously.

And: Make it a habit. Try to implement your favourite 3 tipps into your daily routine.

Of course, these ideas did not all grow on my sprout. But they surely work best for me!

Good luck!
