Once upon a time, high in the Glarus Alps, there was a hotel where children could play in a magic fairy tree, stroll around between cuddly lamas, playful goats and cute rabbits, and where the tables for dinner came flying down from the ceiling while shining in all colours of the rainbow.
And that is not a fairy tale, this magic place really exists! Welcome to the one and only
Märchenhotel in Braunwald
Already the journey to the hotel is an experience. As soon as we arrived at the Braunwaldbahn, our luggage was picked up right away and we were nicely reminded that this is where our holidays begin. The funicular railway takes us up to the car-free Braunwald, 1,300 metres above everyday life. Far from the hustle, bustle and traffic, where hare and fox still say good night to each other. Surrounded by snowy mountains and a view which is unparalleled.
Already on arrival at the hotel, our children's eyes shine like stars in the night sky. Immediately, they get ready for the evening entertainment. Every evening, the hoteliers Nadja and Patric Vogel alias fairy godmother or fairy uncle personally tell a fairy tale for the children.
Afterwards, the legendary locomotive "Emma" takes them to the Hall for Kings for a children's dinner. And it's no joke that the tables for dinner come flying from the ceiling! Just like the inflatable bouncy castle, which is an inherent part of the evening's programme.
And now comes the part where parents must learn again how to deal with their newfound freedom in the evening. Which should not be too difficult for most. The adults enjoy a particularly excellent 5-course dinner, accompanied by probably the world’s best wines, selected by the hotelier herself. And the icing on the cake: these world's best wines may be exclusively pre-tasted at a wine fairy tale for adults before dinner (currently unfortunately suspended due to the pandemic).
It goes without saying that both adults and children will fall into a deep fairytale sleep after such a splendid evening programme. For us, it was almost a waste to sleep, because with the great slide and the whirlpool in the 2-storey 1001 Suite, we could have turned night into day. On the slide, the children were busy for hours …
After this fairytale sleep, it's hard to decide which highlight to discover next. The hotel offers an adventure pool, again with a slide, a go-kart track, a climbing wall, and a very large playground. In cooperation with Europa-Park, a giant fairytale tree with a diameter of 5 metres, suspension bridges, secret tree houses, a bird's nest, and lots of space to discover and romp around were created.
To list everything in detail would go far beyond the scope of this post. Therefore, the motto is: best go there yourself and experience it live!
There are 1001 fairy tales but only 1 fairy tale hotel!
Where friendliness is still written in capital letters. The service is so warm that you feel you have known the staff for years.
Of course, Braunwald also offers numerous beautiful adventure hiking trails in summer and a ski arena in winter. And if you are lucky, you are probably going the find little Zwerg Bartli hiding somewhere in the woods …
