Rapperswil, where I live, is a very beautiful city. Today is a snowy and cold winter morning.
A great spot to calm down and enjoy nature is the wooden pedestrian bridge between the city of Rapperswil and the village of Hurden. Especially in winter and during morning hours, it is very calm, with only a handful of people strolling over. Walk peacefully over the 841 meter long bridge, calm your brain and at the same time enjoy nature, the view of the mountains and Rapperswil Castle. In spring, there are hundreds of swans, ducks and birds which nestle on little sand banks on the lake.
The wooden bridge dates back to April 2001. But interestingly, the prehistoric timber piles discovered to the west of the Seedamm date back to 1523 BC. The two and a half meter wide, modern wooden bridge was inaugurated at the site of the old footbridge. It is the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland and stands on a total of 233 piles. With the exception of a few construction elements, the entire bridge is made of untreated oak.
