Top 7 Tips in Ascona with Kids

Ticino is always worth a trip. Barely through the Gotthard or San Bernardino tunnel, sunshine, a mild climate, and a lot of southern flair await you. Since we've been going to Ascona with the family for years, I don't want to miss sharing a few highlights:

  1. Ristorante Nostrana: An abolute classic is the restaurant Nostrana at the piazza of Ascona. And we are not the only ones with this opinion. The restaurant is always well frequented. It’s not a high-end cuisine, but good down-to earth Ticino cuisine, casual and relaxed. More info: Osteria Nostrana.

  2. Isola di Brissago: A half-day trip to the Brissago Islands is part of the standard programme for us. Especially in spring, the botanic garden on the island blossoms in its full beauty. You can explore different regions of the world and their vegetation. From Ascona the boat trip just takes 15 minutes. More info: Isola di Brissago.

  3. BoBosco hiking trail: For those who like hiking with kids, the Bobosco trail is a real highlight. Boccia al bosco, or BoBosco for short, is a huge marble run made of chestnut wood that leads from Brione Verzasca to Lavertezzo. The 5.5 km trail in the forest, along the emerald green river Verzasca, makes this walk not only exciting for families, but also a natural spectacle in a beautiful landscape. More info: BoBosco.

  4. Swissminiatur: Swissminiatur is Switzerland’s largest open-air miniature museum, located in Melide. Swissminiatur is a great opportunity to discover Switzerland in just one day and thereby admire its fascinating buildings and monuments in small. More info: Swissminiatur.

  5. Monte Tamaro: With an adventure park, a coaster bob and a zip line, Monte Tamaro is a highlight for the whole family. More info: Monte Tamaro.

  6. Falconeria Locarno: In the falconeria you can discover the world of birds of prey close and personal. In the impressive flight show, the birds fly very closely around your ears or even land on your head! More info: Falconeria Locarno.

  7. Lido Locarno: The Lido Locarno is a highlight in summer and in winter. In summer, a huge facility directly on Lago Maggiore invites you to swim in the lake or one of its numerous swimming pools. There are four water slides for every taste, named after the four tributaries of Lago Maggiore. Rapid descents, winding and twisting slides up to the absolute adrenaline rush with the first looping slide in Switzerland. More info: Lido Locarno.

It is also worthwhile to simply explore the beautiful villages in Ticino on foot and stroll leisurely through the romantic alleyways. Or to explore the beautiful valleys by bike and build a little cairn …
